Shentie Mixed Martial Arts

Shentie Mixed Martial Arts Promo:

Summary: As I have mentioned previously, Martial Arts is my favourite hobby alongside any activity involving media. During a meeting with the instructors of Shentie, I volunteered to create a promotional video as part of marketing because I wanted to create something for the club as well as it being enjoyable to construct my own personal project.

I am currently in the process of improving and completing this video using the facilities at school ie. Final Cut Pro.

The Idea: I initially planned to create a video along the lines of a documentary, but I had to also consider my different audiences and what would attract them all. I then decided to make a more 'action-packed' video that would intrigue children as well as adults. I filmed at a range of classes to get a variety of ages, I was not filming anything specific so I could keep the natural class atmosphere.
Influences: I watched a few YouTube kickboxing clips just to see what they featured and what sort of camera shots and angles they used. I did not want to be influenced greatly by any existing videos as I wanted to be original.
How I created it: There was no detailed plan, I only made a few notes which I went through with my instructor. I filmed loads of different things ie. technique, centred sparring, group sparring, grading work and ground work, and got a few individual students to speak for me. I wanted a 'rush' of excitement coming through the video, so I decided to start with Rocky's inspirational and brutal speech to  his son in the film, it fitted well with the fast cuts and fast action.
Challenges: I found it difficult to find the time to work on the video as I had my Media coursework going on at the same time and other subjects. However, I did not want to let my club down and stayed after school for hours trying different ideas. Another challenge when making this video was trying to make everything stand out and look different rather than looking all the same, for example, sparring- I had to show different levels of technique.
